MOORHEAD, MINN. (KFGO) - A man likely owes his life to a Moorhead Police Department Community Service Officer in a daring river rescue.
The 34-year old victim told police he was walking along the Red River in the 3400 block of Rivershore Drive Tuesday afternoon when he got tangled in tree branches, lost his balance, fell into the river, and was swept away in current so strong it tore his pants off.
He managed to grab onto a downed tree in the river. That's when a kayaker spotted the man and called 911. A Moorhead Community Serivce Officer was nearby and was on scene within minutes. He got into the river and pulled the victim to shore. The victim was suffering from hypothermia and had lost feeling in his arms and legs. He said he had been in the river for about 2 hours when he was rescued. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition is not known.
