Teen idol Bobby Vee dead at 73

FARGO (KFGO-AM) - Pop music icon and teen idol Bobby Vee has died.  Vee was 73.  

The Fargo native was launched into fame after Buddy Holly's plane crashed en route to Moorhead in 1959. That's when Vee performed at the Winter Dance Party in Moorhead, which is known as "The Day the Music Died.

Vee became a teen idol, and appeared on "American Bandstand" with Dick Clark. Vee earned 7 gold records and had 38 Top-100 hits. 

Vee also gave a young Bob Dylan his start. Dylan played briefly with Vee's band and suggested he change his last name to Vee.
