WEST FARGO (KFGO) - The deadline is fast approaching for applicants seeking to be the next West Fargo Police Chief. The deadline is 5 p.m Friday. The job was posted 3 weeks ago. The position opened after the city commission fired Mike Reitain, after he was accused of creating a toxic work place and because of internal complaints about his leadership.
City spokesperson Melissa Richard said only six applications have been received so far but there's been a lot of inquiries from interested candidates. She expects there will be a "rush" of applications before the deadline.
Asked if the police department problems might be a deterrent to attracting qualified candidates, Richard said the city has not heard anything to indicate that.
Details on handling the selecton process for the new police chief are still being worked out so no timetable has been set on hiring.
Qualified applicants must have a bachelors degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or a related field and at least 10 years of law enforcement experience. The annual starting salary is just over $89,000.
